I am an Educational Psychologist and a qualified Foundation Phase teacher. I have a Masters degree in Educational Psychology from the Stellenbosch University (Cum Laude), and a research Masters degree from the University of Cape Town, Honours Masters degree from the University of Cape Town and a PGCE (Cum Laude) from UNISA. I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Educational Psychologist. I have completed two Masters thesis focusing on families of children with ADHD in South Africa.
The main aim I keep in mind when engaging with all clients and their families is to provide a space where they feel safe, supported and heard. I work from an asset-based approach. This means I focus on identifying and highlighting the available resources and skills that the learner, family, school, and community have, in order for my client’s true potential to be seen. Through working together this potential and progress may continue to grow and develop after our therapeutic journey together. I follow an inclusive approach to therapy and intervention whereby all important role-players (parents, family members, school) collaborate to ensure my clients are fully supported. I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Person-Centred Therapy, and adapt the therapy to the client’s individual needs. Being trained as an Educational Psychologist, I have experience and knowledge in supporting children, adolescents, and adults with barriers to learning (dyslexia, dyscalculia, behavioural challenges, emotional challenges, ADHD).
I have a special interest in supporting families of children with ADHD and adults with ADHD. I founded the website ADHD Insight to provide knowledge and resources to the South African ADHD community. I run teacher workshops focussed on supporting learners with ADHD in the classroom, as well as parent workshops focussing on managing stress and parenting strategies. I also run an ADHD support group and am writing a children’s book about managing emotions.
I will walk hand in hand with you to assist you in reaching your, or your child’s full potential.
